Amon Dowden, Jr.

Amon Dowden, Jr. was born in Kisatchie, LA on September 27, 1934, the son of Amon and Effie Dowden.  Junior was welcomed at the gates of heaven with a glorious ethereal roar on the morning of October 22, 2017 at 7:30 AM at the age of 83 years young.

He was, and will always be a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cherished friend, true companion and man of God. He spent his childhood as a boy full of spirit and life.  He met the love of his life, Barbara at Kisatchie High School and gladly walked 7 miles each day to see her, hunting along the way. Barbara and Junior were married on June 3, 1955 and shared 62 years together. Junior joined the United States Army in 1957.  His service to our country moved the young newlyweds to several cities before they returned back to Louisiana to start a family and call home. Junior worked as a Journeyman-Wireman Electrician with IBEW Local # 861 for over 50 years. He had numerous passions – deer hunting, squirrel hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, listening to bluegrass, chewing cotton boll and enjoying country life.  He made the most of farm life including planting a garden, riding his tractor, tending to the cows and gathering eggs each day up until the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie and Amon Dowden, sister Laverne Cormie Craft and children Russell and Christine Dowden. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Dowden and his daughter, Janet L’Hoste and husband Stephen L’Hoste, along with his grandchildren Jessica L’Hoste Williamson and husband Brian, Michael L’Hoste and Amy L’Hoste, and one great granddaughter, Natalie L’Hoste.

The family of Amon Dowden, Jr. would like to generously express their deepest appreciation to each and every person who crossed Junior’s path and was a part of his life.  Thank you all for your kind prayers, thoughts and deeds.  All of you are a great comfort and joy at this time.
