Melton Oran Merchant, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and jack of all trades, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 13, 1941, to Clarance and Effie Tilton Merchant in Elizabeth, LA. Melton dedicated his life to his family and the passions that brought him joy, particularly his love of woodworking and the cherished moments spent with his loved ones.
Mel is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores Merchant, their two sons, Brant and wife Catherine Merchant and Keith Merchant, and Two Grandchildren; Joby Avery and Jaime Harper. He was a guiding presence in their lives, instilling values of hard work, creativity, and the importance of family bonds.
Melton was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Everett Merchant, Melvin Merchant, and Evelyn Brooks.
A visitation will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 10:00 am until 1:00pm. Following the viewing, a Private Burial will take place.
Melton Merchant leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, laughter, and love; he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of his creations and the warmth of family.
