Glenda Ruth Keel Shird

Glenda Ruth "Granny" Shird, 77, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Glenda was born January 22, 1948, in Rosepine, LA to Crawford and Lois Dick Keel.

Glenda, Where to start? She loved for everyone to call her Granny. She started going to Green Oak Baptist Church with her granddaughter, Samantha Gordey in 2000. That is when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ became the light of her universe. Jesus was her one true love. Granny was the sweetest, strongest and bravest woman of God and we love her dearly. She never met a stranger. She was a very caring person and she would give anything and everything to anyone who needed it, even if she didn't have anything. She loved her family so very much. Her love of this earth was her husband, Lester Ray "PawPaw" Shird, who she had three children with.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Lester Allen Shird and Jeana of Warren, TX; daughters, Molina Medley and James "Skeeter" of Merryville, LA; Nichole Spell and Richard of Merryville, LA; eleven grandchildren, who she adored very much, Samantha and Calvin Gordey of DeRidder, LA, Ryan and Melinda Meldley of Merryville, LA, Matthew and Brittany Medley of Moss Bluff, LA, Kaleb Shird, Joshua and Bri Shird, Sarah Shird, Andy Medley, Kim Samson, Dianna Medley; sister, Evelyn Keel; and eighteen great grandchildren who she loved very much, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Granny is preceded in death by her parents, Crawford and Lois Keel; husband, Lester Ray "PawPaw" Shird; brothers, Melvin Keel, Melvin "Buddy" Keel, Virgil Thedford, Jerry Keel; sister, Lois Verline Dennis.

She would not want us to mourn but be happy that she is with Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Granny will be missed very much, and her sweetness and strength will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2025, at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Her son, Brother Lester Shird, along with Brother Milton Powers will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Ryan Medley, Josh Shird, Matthew Medley, James Haynes, Charles Haynes, Jr., Calvin Gordey. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaleb Shird. Burial will follow the service at Old Cypress Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.
