Helen was scheduled to be the youngest graduate of Centenary College but fell madly in love with Baiph Johnson, and married him one semester before graduation. They moved to DeRidder in 1956 and raised their four children there
Helen was an active member of the community. She was very active in her church serving on most every board in the church. She served on the Board of Directors at the Beauregard Country Club, DeRidder City Council and City Planning Commission. Helen was ahead of the time and chose to run for mayor. Unfortunately DeRidder was not ready for a female mayor at that time.
She was instrumental in helping many organizations get their start in DeRidder. She loved helping her family and friends when they needed her. Honey was an avid bridge player, playing numerous times a week. She played until her eyesight would no longer allow her to read the cards. She loved maintaining her beautiful yard, In later years she enjoyed watching her daughter Liz keep up her yard.
She loved to express her opinion with anyone that would listen. She valued her friends' opinions especially when they agreed with her. Upon the death of her youngest son Helen started the Beauregard Community Concerns. She did not want anyone else to look for answers and not be able to find them.
Helen Johnson lived a life for friends, family, and her God. She played golf with friends Marty Smith, Kate Heneghan, and Jeannie Pope. She always opened her pool each Easter for her family and friends. She was a vital part in establishing the WD West House of Care, Inc.
