It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Patricia Cooksey Toussant, who left us on July 3, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Born on January 30, 1954, in DeRidder, Louisiana, Catherine dedicated 36 incredible years to shaping young minds as a school teacher. She was truly passionate about her work, being the biggest cheerleader for her students. Known for her infectious spirit, "Ms T" organized pep rallies and brought so much energy to her school, making learning bright and fun for everyone.
Catherine was not just a teacher, but a beloved family member and friend. She cherished her family, often sending weekly love shoutouts to keep everyone connected. Her loving son, Ronnie Toussant, Jr. of Houston, TX, her sisters, Sharon Henton of Lake Charles, LA and Linda Walker (Rev. Robert D. Walker) of Beaumont, TX; brothers Douglas Ray Cooksey (Kathalee) of Lafayette, LA, Albert Roland Cooksey, Sr. of DeRidder, LA, Elbert "Sonny" Nash Cooksey (Lena) of Kenoshia WA, along with her grandchildren, Ronnie W. Toussant, III, Kyron Toussant, Maliki Toussant, Kaliise Nelson will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Anna Cooksey; sisters, Margaret Cooksey, Rose Mary Cooksey Childs.
An enthusiastic churchgoer and a woman with a green thumb, Catherine loved tending to her plants and flowers, bringing beauty to her yard and home. She had a knack for creativity and decorated her school for every holiday, ensuring that there was always a festive atmosphere wherever she went.
Catherine's heart was as big as her laugh, and her favorite saying, "I love you more!" will echo in the hearts of all who knew her. She always made sure she had the last word with love!
A memorial service for Catherine will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in celebrating her life and the lasting impact she made on our hearts and community.
Rest in peace, Ms. T. You will be missed more than words can express.
