Zachary Scott

September 25, 1949 — April 30, 2026

DeRidder, Louisiana

Zachary Scott fell asleep in death on April 30, 2026, in Lake Charles Louisiana. He was 76 years old.

Zach, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends was born on September 25, 1949, in DeRidder Louisiana to Hoy and Lela Scott.

He was known for his sharp mind, his sense of humor, his devoted affection for everyone and his unwavering service to Jehovah.

He graduated from George Washington Carver high school in 1968 as salutatorian of his class. He attended Grambling State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics.

Zach was offered many opportunities to advance in his career as a physicist, but he chose to serve Jehovah bringing his family and countless others into the truth.

Zach retired from the Beauregard Parish school system with over 30 years of service, teaching math and science at DeRidder high school.

Zach dedicated his life to Jehovah demonstrating his faith by baptism in 1973. Throughout his service to Jehovah, he enjoyed going out of the field ministry. He was a writer and a poet, so it was only natural for him to create a newsletter called Tuesday evening witnessing TEW.

It told of the many adventures the group experienced going from door to door on Tuesday evenings, with the hope of spreading the good news to those with an open heart.

Not only was Zach a writer and a poet he also enjoyed reading, researching different Bible translations, solving Sudoku puzzles and inventing puzzles from wood. His puzzles were so complicated, he had to share the solution to those who dared to try to solve them.

Needless to say his favorite game show was Jeopardy.

Zach had a brilliant mind but his love for others compelled him to be selfless, always helping others spiritually and physically, sacrificing his own well-being.

Zach was married to Ilma Ann Simpson until she fell asleep in death in 2014.

He is survived by his loving children, Shree Edwards of Lake Charles, Carla Barriffe (Kenneth), Jamie Williams (Keith), and Jathan B. Scott of Raleigh, North Carolina; Sisters: Mary Whitman and Patricia Wallace of DeRidder Angie McNeely of Lafayette and Dorsey Madison (Larry), of Suffolk, Virginia and Brother: Arthur Scott of Metairie; Grandchildren who affectionately called him “Poppy”, Brioni Wedderburn, Brittany Edwards, Ryan Barriffe, Jayden Singleton, Jairus Barriffe, Jamin Barriffe, Kayla Williams and great granddaughter, Italy Edwards along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hoy and Lela Scott and a brother, Randell Scott.

Zach will be missed by all who knew and loved him and we look forward to seeing him in paradise under Jesus reign.

Revelation21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more. The former things have passed way.”

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Elder Ronald Young will officiate the service. A repass will be held following the service for family and friends to gather and share memories of Elder Zach.
