Yvonne Tucker, A Beautiful Woman of Faith, Courage & Strength
At ninety-two years of age, Yvonne’s smile and loving eyes still showed the light of Jesus shining through. Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior remained steadfast, her favorite hymn being “He Lifted Me”. No matter what was being reported in the news, she would say” The Lord is in control and He can do with me whatever He wants to do.
Her life was devoted to her family. She cared for an invalid son for thirty-five years and whenever someone would mention the burden it must have been to care for him, she would quickly respond that he was not a burden, he was her baby. Although his care demanded attention 24/7, her strength and grace were more than enough to attend to the needs of her husband and two daughters. And then she became known as “Nanny” to two grandsons, who have always enjoyed the gift of her unconditional, enduring love.
Yvonne was born in Pitkin, Louisiana, on January 29, 1931, to Madison and Lola Jordan. She departed this life on July 21, 2023. She is preceded in death by her loving parents; her husband of seventy-one years, Doyle; two sons, Reginald and Alan; one great-grandson, Mason; and dear siblings.
Yvonne will be forever treasured by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kenneth and Vonda Hodges and Danny and Melonee Fleming, all of DeRidder, LA; grandsons, Chris Hodges and wife Audrye of Winnie, TX and Timothy Hodges of Beaumont, TX; four great grandchildren, Cadence, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Cooper and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Those of us who have had the privilege to call her Yvonne, Mother, Aunt Yvonne or Aunt Vonne, and Nanny have been blessed with knowing a woman of God with a courageous heart filled with faith, love and grace.
We can only imagine the blessed reunion she’ll enjoy with family and friends who also chose to receive God’s greatest gift, His Son.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Pastor Kenneth Hodges and Pastor George Lee Glass will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Blue Branch Cemetery in Pitkin, LA.
