Walter Libick

Walter Libick, 88, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Friday, April 26, 2024.


Walter was a life-long resident of Merryville after moving here as a youth. He was a graduate of Merryville High School and an active volunteer with the youth athletics programs while his grandchildren were attending Merryville.


Walter was married to Lillie Mae Moses Libick for 44 years before her passing in 2002.


He was a veteran, and served during the Vietnam War stateside and went on to work  for the Department of the Army at Fort Polk as a computer programmer and retired after working for 30 years. In retirement, he was a volunteer at Soup for the Soul community soup kitchen, serving every day for many years.


Walter was a member of First Presbyterian Church, DeRidder for more than 30 years, serving as a deacon, elder and Sr. Elder.


Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tammie Lynn Bender and Larry of Hickory Creek, TX, Vickie Libick of Lewisville, TX; grandchildren, C.J. Libick, Anna Senn, Charles Bender III and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Moses Libick.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. A private burial will be held for the Libick family. Brother Jason Fortenberry will officiate. Pallbearers will be Larry Bender, Charles Bender III, Chad Senn, Mark Brown, C.J. Libick, Desmond McCain.
