It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Swinney McCain, Jr., a beloved figure in our community, who left us on June 8, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on November 14, 1960, in Bon Wier, Texas, Swinney lived in this close-knit town for his entire life, building lasting memories and friendships.
A proud graduate of Newton High School, Swinney dedicated much of his working life in the lumber industry, starting at LP when he was just 18 years old. After the mill's closure, he transitioned to working at Lowes in Jasper as a sales associate in the lumber department, where his hard work and dedication earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.
Swinney was not just known for his work ethic; he was also a loving father to his children, Christy McCain Steel and Authas of Newton, TX, Stacy McCain and Anthony Quashire of Houston, TX, Jaclyn McCain of Newton, TX, Swinney McCain, III of Newton, TX, Christopher Flemmones and Oleshihonna of Merryville, LA, Alex McCain of Newton, TX, Alana McCain of Jasper, TX, Kyvan McCain of Jasper, TX. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl Junior McCain of Bon Wier, TX, Donald Ray McCain of Bon Wier, TX, Curtis Ray McCain of Austin, TX; sisters, Theresa McCain of Rosepine, LA, Rose Mary McCain of Katy, TX; twenty-two grandchildren; one great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends, who will carry on his legacy. His passion for family was evident, and he cherished the moments spent with loved ones.
Swinney was preceded in death by his parents, AJ "Swenny" and Minnie Mae Issac McCain; brother, Ronald McCain; grandson, Xavier Woods.
In his free time, Swinney enjoyed tinkering with cars, showcasing his talent as a skilled mechanic and he also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He also had a love for fitness and spent many hours working out and lifting weights.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Swinney's life during a funeral service at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. A public viewing will take place on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Belgrade Cemetery in Bon Wier, TX. Pallbearers will be Joseph Hickman, Steven McCain, Melvin McCain, Otis McCain, Swinney McCain, III, Alex McCain. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allen McCain, Christopher Flemmones, Michael Issac, Hollis Issac, Ricky Issac, Sr., Kevin Issac, Timothy Issac.
Swinney McCain will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
