Sheldon Young

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sheldon Young, a beloved father, friend, and community member, who left us on July 12, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on August 24, 1938, in Iowa, Louisiana, Sheldon lived a life full of love, laughter, and a commitment to helping others.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Myers Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be officiated by Rev. Zale Lewis and Rev. Chance Lewis. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the Chapel. 

Sheldon was a dedicated family man and a proud single father to his three children, Tony, Tina, and Kim. He poured his heart and soul into raising them, always putting their needs first. His warmth and kindness touched everyone he met, and he had a knack for making people smile with his jokes and stories.

 He had a passion for cars, particularly his favorite, the ’57 Chevy, and spent many years working in the car business. Sheldon owned City AutoMart, where he connected with customers and truly enjoyed the art of the sale. Before that, he owned a grocery store, where he enjoyed taking care of all his customers. Sheldon always showed a willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need and would answer any call that came. 

Throughout his life, Sheldon remained devoted to his faith and his church, finding strength and community in his beliefs. He loved to dance and was always the first to join the fun, showcasing that infectious spirit that he carried with him wherever he went.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his Father: Joseph Young; Mother: Lily Young; Stepmother: Jo Young; Brothers: Richard Young, J.R. Young; Nephew: Rafeal Young.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Tony Young (Shelya) of DeRidder, Tina Young of DeRidder, Kim Amar (Simon) of Miami, FL; First wife and Mother of his children: Velma Harris of DeRidder; Sister: Shirley Cooley of Kinder ; Sister in Law: Loretta Young of DeRidder; Grandchildren: Joshua Young (Kelsey), Alyssa Moreland (Robert Jr.), Brandon Young (Othea), Ronald ‘Tres’ Shelton, Sofia Amar, Leah Amar, Eliana Amar; Great Grandchildren: Enslie Young, Jaylie Young, Assa Young, Amelia Moreland, Eloise Moreland, Ashton Young, Skye Young.

Rest easy, Sheldon. You will be greatly missed but always remembered.
