It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roddy Joe Johnson, who left us on January 27, 2026, at the age of 63. Roddy was born on August 23, 1962, at Fort Sam Houston, TX, but he called DeRidder, LA, home for many years.
Roddy was a talented professional photographer who had a real gift for capturing life's special moments. He had a friendly demeanor and enjoyed meeting people, often seen laughing and sharing stories with friends and family. He was a retired UPS driver but found great joy in his photography career, and he loved to entertain, cooking delicious meals for anyone lucky enough to join him. Cooking wasn't just a hobby; it was his love language-a way to bring people together.
Roddy was incredibly proud of his children and is survived by his son, Pierce Johnson and wife, Victoria of Lake Charles, LA and daughter, Chelsea Johnson of Worcester, MA; sister, Valerie Hoffpauir and husband, David of Lake Charles, LA; bonus family, Pat Sewell and wife, Liz of Deridder, LA, Robert Carpenter of Lake Charles, LA and a host of family and friends.
Roddy was preceded in death by his mother, Angelina Poland and his father, Billy Joe Johnson.
Outside of family, Roddy had a big heart for animals, always making sure they were safe during bad weather. He had a special love for Christmas, especially the joy it brought to others. He was a huge supporter of Christmas charities, particularly toy drives that aimed to spread happiness to children. He was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, always ready to cheer them on.
Roddy loved the great outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing when he could. While he didn't travel often, the trips he did take were filled with laughter and unforgettable memories.
A public visitation will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM where friends and family can gather to share memories and say their goodbyes. A funeral service will take place at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2:00 PM, celebrating the life of a truly wonderful man. Brother Jerry Egbert will officiate the service. Following the service, Roddy will be laid to rest at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Pallbearers will be Pierce Johnson, Pat Sewell, Ralph Hayes, Robert Carpenter, Craig Cooley and John Welborn. Honorary pallbearers will be Norris Watt, Jim Parks, the late, Jim Ambler and the late, Bill Anderson.
Roddy Johnson will be missed dearly but remembered fondly for his immense kindness, love for family, and all the joy he brought into our lives.
