Richie Hayes Young, Jr., a beloved Father, Brother, Paw Paw and Uncle, passed away on May 2, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of his family and friends. Born on August 14, 1952, in DeRidder, Louisiana, Richie lived a life filled with faith, love, and a playful spirit that those who knew him will cherish forever.
A simple man at heart, Richie was known for his unwavering love for God and his family, especially his grandbabies, whom he often declared to be "the best part of life." He had a knack for speaking his mind and sharing his thoughts openly, earning the respect of those around him. Richie was a dedicated member of the Rosepine United Pentecostal Church, where he found joy in worshiping and connecting with his community.
For over 20 years, Richie served as a Fire Captain with the DeRidder Fire Department, a role that showcased his commitment to helping others. He enjoyed the thrill of life, often indulging in old Gospel music, reading, and spending time watching westerns and true crime documentaries. A fan of family adventures, Richie loved going on cruises with his loved ones, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Richie's journey in education took him through East Beauregard High School and briefly at McNeese, but it was his hands-on experience and dedication to his job that mattered most to him.
He is survived by his son, Chris Meaut Young and Monique Mosley of DeRidder, LA; his daughters, April Lowry and Lance of Huntsville, TX, Callie Young of Deridder, LA; his brothers, Paul "Bubba" Young and Debbie of DeRidder, LA, Gary Young and Rebecca of Longville, LA; his sister, Marla Atkinson and Michael of Dry Creek, LA; his many cherished grandchildren: Christopher "Blake" Meaut and Kelsey, Gage Wisby and Lauren, Khloe Meaut, Alyvia Alberto and Esau, Emmah Meaut and Marshal, Emily Mosley, Bentlee Meaut, Jaxson Meaut, Cristin Lowry, Mattox Lowry, Camilla Lowry,; his precious great grandchildren, Grantley Meaut, Grayson Meaut, Ava Wisby, Myles Wisby, Gia Alberto and one on the way. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends will also cherish his memory.
Richie was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Young; parents, Richie Young, Sr., Ruth and Lavon Taylor.
Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of Richie's life. There will be a public viewing at the Rosepine United Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM. Reverend Gary Bankson and Reverend Kenneth Gibson will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Chris Meaut Young, Blake Meaut, Coby Nolen, Tyler Nolen, Shea McCallon and Gage Wisby. Richie will be laid to rest following the service at Blue Branch Cemetery in Pitkin, LA.
