Penny Ann McVey, born on August 13, 1964, in Richwood, VA, passed away on September 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be forever cherished. As a devoted homemaker, Penny poured her heart into caring for her family. She had an incredible ability to be there for anyone in need, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
Penny had a unique touch. She was an avid collector of carousels and birds, which reflected her vibrant spirit and love for life's little joys. Music and dancing were her passions, and she loved to crochet while catching up on her favorite daily shows. Her joyful energy and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
Penny is survived by her sons, Raymond E. Hernandez and Lisa of DeRidder, LA, daughters, Michelle Tharp and Greg Massey of DeRidder, LA, Inkeri Ybarra and Manuel Ybarra of Moss Bluff, LA; stepson, Christian McVey and Tamara of Oregon; brothers, Ricardo Moralez and Richard Moralez, both of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Teresa Barker and Owen of Montana, Tammy Lam and Charles Clark of Leesville, LA, Sandra Anderson of DeRidder, LA; fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Michael V. McVey; father, David Tharp; mother, Barbara Sue Holbert Jones; stepfather, Guy Jones; sister, Pamela Tharp; stepson, Michael Sevenson; niece, Catherine Capehart; great nephew, Xzavier Capehart; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kent and Ingrid McVey; brother-in-law, Roy Lam; sister-in-law, Diana McVey
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Penny's life at a funeral service scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. A public viewing will take place from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, leading up to the service. Following the service, Penny will be cremated, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved.
