Peggy Joyce Salter Green
With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Peggy Salter Green, 88, of Rosepine, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, after bravely facing a long illness.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Both services will be held at Myers–Colonial Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Peggy expressed her love through cooking and sharing meals. She joyfully prepared food for her family, church, and community, filling her kitchen with warmth and comfort. Everyone who sat at her table left with a full stomach — and often feeling even more loved.
She spent nearly 50 years working in the cafeterias at Rosepine Elementary and High Schools, serving from 1960 to 1995 and again from 2002 to 2015.
During her career, she prepared and served more than 12,000 meals, each one offered with care and kindness.
Peggy was a devoted member of Diamond Baptist Church in DeRidder, Louisiana, where she frequently volunteered her time to serve others. She especially enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School and preparing meals for church events, always showing her generosity and love through simple acts of service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Salter, Roger Salter, Bryan Churchman, Erik Churchman, Brennan McDaniel, and Kirk Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Pate, Chance Green, and Michael Caplan.
Brother Bill Smith and Brother Charlie Williams will officiate the services.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Pate and her husband, Ray; Terry Jopling; and Farrah Reyna Caplan and her husband, Michael; her son, Randall Green; her grandchildren, Lauren McDaniel and her husband, Brennan, and Chance Green; her great-grandchildren, Hendrix Rush, Hudson McDaniel, and Hollyn McDaniel; and many other beloved family members.
Peggy was preceded in death by the father of her children, Herbert Lee Green; her beloved daughter, Sherry Lee Green Reyna; her parents, Thomas “Boog” and Lela Lewis Salter; her siblings, Marjorie Mauren Salter; Doris Salter Hughes and her husband, Ken; Marion “Brown” Salter and his wife, Evelyn; Thomas “Ike” Salter; Ben Salter and his wife, Ginny; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
The family sincerely thanks the care team at All Saints Hospice of Lake Charles — Brenda Fontenot, CNA; Kelly Maddox, Social Worker; and Reverend Tim Bergeron, Chaplain — for the compassion, support, and loving care they gave to Peggy.
With full and grateful hearts, the family also thanks Sylvia Howard, JoEllen Howell, Paulette Quesenbury, and Peggy Whittington for the tenderness, compassion, and love they showed to their mother and to the family.
