Pegge Joyce Holaway Calhoun was called home to the Lord on April 21st, 2026, at age 96.
She was born February 19, 1930, in Sugartown, Louisiana. After graduating valedictorian from her high school class, Pegge met and married her husband of 59 years, James “Jim” Calhoun in 1946. Their life together was filled with love for each other, the blessing of children, devotion to faith and their church family, traveling, and frequent fellowship with friends.
A lover of the natural world- Pegge fondly recalled summers spent swimming in the cold waters of Sugar Creek as a young girl. She doted on her vegetable and flower gardens that she tended with her beloved Jim. Each season ushered in the marvels of God’s creation, and she would often start a phone call or a letter with news of the splashy azaleas that had bloomed early or of the glossy Sugartown watermelon someone had given her that had tasted so sweet, or the cheerful birdsong of the cardinals and warblers at her backyard feeder.
Pegge enjoyed collecting vintage furniture, art, and glassware, and started an antiques business called Past Enchantments. She loved to shop and whether it was Sunday morning church service or a trip to grocery store, she was always the most smartly dressed in the room. She even made weeding the flower beds look glamourous in a chiffon scarf and straw hat.
She is survived by her daughter, Pegge Teresa Norwood; son, James Rayford Calhoun Jr. (Sheria); granddaughters Stephanie Norwood Kollar (Steven) and Audra Burge (Jeremy); great grandchildren, Nathan James Kollar, Juliette Kollar, Adalyn Howard (Garrett) and Riley Burge; brother, John E. Holaway (Brenda), sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holaway, Mureline Manning, and Marie Holaway; one great-great grand, Legend Stracner; granddaughter of the heart, Rachel Paul and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, James R. Calhoun Sr.; parents, George and Agnes Sigler Holaway, sister, Marie Achee; brother, Kenneth “Bud” Rabon Holaway, George Huey Holaway, and Brent Holaway; son-in-law, Ronnie Norwood
The family wishes to give special acknowledgement to her niece and confidant, Nancy Stephens and good friend, Rhonda Hauser.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at First United Pentecostal Church of DeRidder. Brother Zale Lewis, Brother George Lee Glass and Brother Reuben Paul will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Sugartown Cemetery in Sugartown, LA.
