Norma Virtuous Cooley Davis

Norma Virtuous Cooley Davis, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 6, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on February 18, 1937, in DeRidder, Louisiana, she was known for her unwavering faith and strong family ties that shaped her life. Norma grew up in a faith-filled household with a grandfather who served as a long-time pastor at the Three Pines Pentecostal Church, instilling in her the values that would guide her throughout her life.

Affectionately known as "Mother Bear" by her husband, Bernie, Norma fiercely protected her children: Ermel, Teresa, John, Nita and Charles. As a homemaker, she poured her heart into her family, cooking breakfast six days a week and sharing delicious full-course meals under the shade of a tree during break times on the family farm. She was a hard worker and excellent seamstress, always ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed.

A talented singer and piano player, Norma shared her musical gifts with her family and community. She taught her children to sing and harmonize, creating beautiful melodies together. As a member of the Cooley Sisters singing group, her voice could be heard on KDLA, the DeRidder radio station, bringing joy to many.

She is survived by her children, Ermel James Davis and Roxanne of DeRidder, LA, John Dale Bernard Davis and Renee of DeRidder, LA, Teresa Davis of DeRidder, LA, Nita Willis and Mikel of Bartlesville, OK; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bernie Davis of DeRidder, LA; son, Charles Davis; parents, Carl and Tressie Cooley; brothers, Urshon Cooley, Coleman Cooley; sisters, Etah Doyle, Evonne Jones, Joan Hightower.

A public viewing will take place at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to come to honor this remarkable woman who touched so many lives. Her funeral service will follow on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church. Bro. Ricky Wead, Bro. John Davis and Bro. Jeff Phillips will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Dustin Streets, Atlas Davis, Judah Davis, Nicholas Burks, John Davis, Landry Willis, Clinton Willis, Kaleb Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Garrett Robertson and Chris Stephens. Norma will be laid to rest in a private burial.

Norma V, as she was known to her friends, will be deeply missed, but her greatest legacy-the love of family and faith-will continue to shine in all who knew her.
