It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Nettie Wayne Fontenot Calloway on April 19, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on October 11, 1935, in Ville Platte, LA, Nettie spent her life in service to her family as a devoted homemaker and an active member of the Texas Avenue Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA.

Nettie was a loving mother to her sons, Marty Calloway and Melanie of Sulphur, LA and Barry Calloway and Marlee of North Augusta, SC, and she cherished her role as a grandmother to Mandi Thebner and Jon, Matthew Calloway, Erin Calloway, Grant Calloway and her great grandchildren, Audrey and Austin Thebner and Delilah Calloway. She will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Family meant everything to her, and her home was always a gathering place where laughter and love flourished.

Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Calloway ; parents, Wycliff and Edna Fontenot.

Beyond her family, Nettie had a passion for adventure. She loved to fish and travel, often hitting the road with her late husband, Charles, and their friends. They made countless memories camping in beautiful places, from the scenic campgrounds of Colorado to an unforgettable road trip all the way to Alaska.

Nettie also loved to cook and was known especially for her mouthwatering gumbo that brought friends and family around the table. Her cooking was a testament to her love for gathering people together. Nettie also found great joy in volunteering as a Pink Lady at Beauregard Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at Texas Avenue Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with a public viewing starting at 11:00 AM. Brother Frank Ott will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Jon Thebner, Austin Thebner, Kenny Garst, Danny Gibson, Wayne Howell and Ovie Gill. After the service, Nettie will be laid to rest at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.

Though she has left us, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Nettie Wayne Calloway will be dearly missed, and her love will remain a guiding light for her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
