Rosepine, Louisiana

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Lee Chaney, who left us on August 22, 2025, at the age of 53. Born on July 21, 1972, in Leesville, LA, Michael grew up to be a beloved son, brother, and friend. He spent much of his life in Rosepine, LA, where he created lasting memories and friendships.

Michael was a proud graduate of Rosepine High School and had a passion for cooking that led him to serve as a military cook in Afghanistan for two years. He also shared his culinary skills at Ms. Emily's Bakery in Rosepine, where his love for food brought joy to many. When he wasn't cooking up a storm, Michael loved to spend time outdoors. He had a knack for planting gardens and took great pride in keeping his mother's flower beds blooming beautifully. He also enjoyed fishing whenever he got the chance and loved to ride horses, a passion that filled his heart with joy.

Michael was a man of simple pleasures. He cherished his time spent in Baton Rouge, visiting friends. His love for animals was evident through his affection for both horses and dogs. Michael's warm spirit and love for life touched everyone around him and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his parents, Almer and Diana Chaney of Rosepine, LA; his sisters, Monica Alicia Longon and Robert of Esterwood, LA and Tammy Diana Pickett and Paul of North Dakota; cousins, Ursela "Spring" Clement and Cody Lee Clement; nieces and nephews, Ashley Cormier, DJ Cormier, Scott Pickett, Mitchell Pickett, George Pickett; aunts and uncles, Louanna Clement and Garner, Julie Fontenot and Glenn, Elbert Chaney and Twila, Jimmy Chaney and Alfa Jean, Clifford Chaney, Douglas Self, and a host of great nieces, nephews, other family and friends who will always remember him with love.
