Mattye Corley

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mattye Sue Mathis Corley, who left us on May 19, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on July 3, 1929, in Call, Texas, Mattye spent her life as a loving homemaker, making lasting memories in DeRidder, Louisiana, where she became a cherished member of the community.

Mattye was a spirited woman. If she liked you, you were her friend for life, and if she didn't, well, you knew it! Her love for family shone brightly, whether she was tending to her back porch garden or cooking up the world's best roast. She had a special spot in her heart for her homegrown tomatoes and could often be found driving around in the summer, scouting for the juiciest ones. A fan of soap operas, she never missed an episode of "Days of Our Lives".

Mattye was a woman of many talents, with a passion for music that was infectious. Growing up surrounded by her brothers and sisters, they filled their home with melodies, always gathered around the piano, harmonizing with joy. She brought the same loving spirit to her family gatherings, always ready to lend an ear or offer wise advice-her spunk shining through whenever good music was playing.

A proud matriarch, Mattye was the rock for her grandchildren, as well as her great-grandchildren, She cherished each of them, always leaving them with uplifting words and encouragement. Her advice was golden when given, and she would put you in your place quickly when needed. Known for her love of Merle Norman makeup and enjoying her hair done just right, she was a true diamond in the rough, radiating grace and warmth to everyone she met.

Mattye leaves behind her beloved husband of forty-three years, Henry Corley of DeRidder, LA, along with her children, Michael Avery and Sandy of Rosepine, LA and Wanda Avery Greenwald of LaCombe, LA. She was a proud grandmother to Kerry Paige Cooley and Russell, Dillon Avery, Justin Avery, and Kate Avery, and a loving great-grandmother to Addison Buescher, Josh Avery, Kasey Cooley, and Cash Cooley and four beautiful great-great granchildren. Her memory will also be cherished by a host on nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mattye was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mattye Mathis; siblings, Edward Mathis, Chelsea "DeeDee" Mathis, Inez Mathis, Beulah Mathis, Irene "Rene" Mathis, Louise Mathis, Joseph Mathis, Billie Mathis, "Sonny Boy" and three sets of twins.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a public viewing at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on May 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Mattye will be laid to rest at Beauregard Cemetery in Deridder, LA. James Welch will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Kasey Cooley, Cash Cooley, Russell Cooley, Justin Avery, Michael Avery.

Mattye will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for her strength, love, and the music she brought into our lives.
