Mary Alice Carter, 93, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

After high school, she graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in 1950, with a degree in microbiology and earned her Medical Technology certification in New Orleans. It was there that she met Dr. Henry Carter whom she married in 1953. They moved to DeRidder in 1957 where Dr. Carter began his medical partnership with Dr. Lu Brown.

Mary Alice was a homemaker, raising her children, serving in many capacities at First Baptist Church, and participating in community activities. She began a new career in 1981 when she became the office administrator for Dr. Carter’s medical practice. She loved working side by side with Henry, and she loved the personal contact with patients. She also enjoyed being a part of many medical mission trips to Honduras and Mexico. After retirement in 2013, Mary and Henry enjoyed time together and with family, continuing to serve in the church and community.

Those left to cherish her memory are son, Henry S. Carter, Jr. and Sherrie of Wichita Falls, TX; daughters, Martha Pollard and Rod of Creede, CO, Susan Smith and Brad of DeRidder, LA, Mary Jean Butaud and Chris of Bothell, WA; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dr. Henry S. Carter; parents, James and Celia Byrd; brother, Charles Byrd; sister, Jim El Harris.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at First Baptist Church of DeRidder and will continue Monday, August 15, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 AM also at First Baptist Church of DeRidder, located at 2030 Hwy 171.  Pastor Steve Graves will officiate the service. The service will be live streamed on the First Baptist Church of DeRidder Facebook page. A private interment for the family will be held after the service.
