Retired DeRidder Fire Chief, Marvin A. Whiddon, Sr, passed away September 21, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. Marvin was born September 22, 1940, in Merryville, La, the son of Ebarb and Joyce Whiddon. He was raised in Merryville. Marvin was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church.
Marvin graduated from Merryville High School, class of 1959. He then went on to attend barber school in Orange, Tx. Worked various trades through the years, including construction, and road maintenance. He played a large role in forming Beauregard Parish Fire District No 1. While working for the parish he was asked to apply for the position as Fire Chief for City of DeRidder. While serving as Chief he earned his license for Private Investigation. Starting in 1986 he began his career as Fire Chief. Serving this community for 25 years. He helped start Emergency Response Council in La for natural emergencies with BPSO and others, which was the first in the state. He also had integral part in the 911 office start up in Beauregard Parish. In 2009 he was appointed to the Board of Commissioners for Waterworks District No 6. Serving many years as president.
Marvin is survived by his two sons, Thalmage and Wanda of Cleveland, Tx. Andy and Renee of Junction Community; two daughters, Tammy and Beaux of Junction Community, Rene’ and Mike of Bossier City, La; grandchildren, Trey Victor and Bridget, Amanda Primeaux and Austin Watts, Corey Whitaker, Cody Primeaux and Cami, Vivian Whiddon, Alan Whitaker; great grandchildren, Arianna and Dawson Inboden, Summer Victor, Kirsten Paulk, Naddalynn Victor, Victoria Morales, Nevaeh Morales, Paisley Whiddon, Alan Whitaker, Destiny Whitaker, Dustin Whitaker, Alexis Whitaker, Natalie Whitaker, Sam Whitaker, Kinsley Whiddon; four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his wife of 63 years Mary Ann Whiddon, one brother, Bobby Whiddon, one sister, Estelle Haymon.
He was a fire fighters chief and friend. When not at the station, he could be found either in the garden or spending time with family and friends fishing. He loved hosting class reunions at his home.
Friends and family are invited to visitation at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 5 until 9 PM. His funeral will be Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church DeRidder. Brother Jason Fuller will officiate the service. Special speakers will be Tony Dobson, Devin Goodwin and Rene Toney. There will be a procession from the funeral home to First Baptist Church of DeRidder where his celebration of life will be held. Pallbearers will be members of the Beauregard Parish Fire Departments, Kenneth Harlow, Eric Stracener, Bobby Hooks, Billy Spikes, Randy Mc Cullough, Dempsey Whitt, Jay Williams, and Devan Goodwin. Alternate Pall Bearers will be Eugene Bailey, Robert Toney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dakota Cryer, Larry Dickens, Justin Slaydon, Zach Weaver, Rena Toney, Tony Dobson, Jerry Mathews, Craig Richard, Juan Ledezma, Ty Henton, Brandon Bartlett, Shane Guillory, Dennis Deggs, Theresa Reeves, Quinton Hebert, Kelly Bailey, Wade Hickman, Dallas Cole, Chad Estes, Mike Liles, Donna Travis, Jeb Moore, Gary Gimnick, Lindon Neil, Adley Perkins, Ken Chavalier, David Gregory, Margaretta Mayes, John McDaniel, Russel Gruber, Scott Slayton, Keith Beck, John Yielding, Rodney McSweeney. Burial will follow in Cannon Cemetery at Junction Community.
