Lucille Lois Bassett Harvey

d. July 30, 2017

Lucille Lois Bassett Harvey was born October 29, 1924 in Pickering, LA, to the late W. Bassett and Lily Mae Williams. She was the youngest of four children.   (Lula Matthews, Herman Tyson, and Annie Bell McClinton - DeRidder, LA). Both parents and siblings all preceded her in death.

Lucille confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, was baptized and joined Zion Hill Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder C.D. Norris. Lucille was united in holy matrimony to Ozell Harvey (San Antonio, TX) in 1942.  To this union one child was born, Earnie Mae Harvey. She had many hobbies, but caring for her flowers and watching her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, were her favorite pastimes.  During her younger days, she enjoyed hunting and fishing on the outskirts of DeRidder.

Lucille was a cosmetologist by profession but also worked in other capacities.  She retired as a medical assistant from a local nursing home in DeRidder at the age of 62. Lucille touched many lives during her lifetime and her legacy will continue to live through her family and friends.  She loved her family and tried to be available to each on a personal level.

Lucille past peacefully at the blessed age of 92, after a brief illness on July 30, 2017 at 9:25 am at North Delta Hospice in Southaven, MS with family at her bedside. At the time of her death, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Memphis, TN where she resided over the past 11 years.  It was here that she spent her final days and despite being in her early 90’s, she was a joy to have around and shared many laughs and fond memories.

Her memories will be cherished by her daughter (Earnie Mae Logan) and son-in-law (Johnnie Logan) of Memphis, TN, (2) loving goddaughters, Billie Rea Perkins and Jacqueline Baldwin (Mike Baldwin) of Houston, TX, (1) granddaughter, Dr.  Lisa Logan Smith (Craig Smith) of Atlanta, GA, (1) grandson, Tyren Logan of Memphis, TN (2) great grandchildren, Caitlyn and Aidan Smith of Atlanta, GA, and a host of loving great nieces, great nephews, supportive cousins and loving friends.

Visitation and service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 9:00 AM – 11:00AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Norris Memorial Church of God in Christ in DeRidder, LA.  Burial will follow at Community Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Pastor Murray Charles Piper will officiate.
