Mrs. Leonia Marie McNair

(Sweety Weedy)

Sunrise: July 31, 1964 — Sunset: February 10, 2023

“Remember me in your heart: my days, my life, and my strife; then, I will ride on the wings of time to live an endless life.”

Leonia Marie McNair, affectionately and especially known as Sweety Weedy because she was so sweet and skinny as a weed, transitioned into eternal life on February 10, 2023, at the age of 58. Leonia was born on July 31, 1964, in DeRidder, Louisiana to the late Clarence and Mary Victoria (Batiste) St. Romain.

Weedy met and later wed Bryan on November 22, 2003, and they were married for twenty years. Together they raised their two children: Britney and Bryce. Weedy was a devoted and loving mother who dutifully kept up with her children. However, she was easily revered by her children because she was both sincerely beautiful on the inside and outside and she loved through the strength of her joyful character.

Weedy was a loyal member of her community, having worked for Temples Construction as a construction worker and as a cashier at Rosendoll’s Café.  However, her true calling came when she began working at G.W. Carver Elementary School where she later retired.  For 22 years, she served the school where her late father also worked and later retired.

As the school's guardian, Weedy ensured the safety of the children crossing the street, and she took this responsibility seriously.  She made it a point to know the children and even tended to those that were less fortunate. Weedy was known to show the love of Jesus in quiet ways by combing little girls’ hair in the bathroom before they went to class, providing cleanly pressed uniforms for those in need, and buying treats and meals for those who could not afford it.

Beyond her duties as a crossing guard, Weedy was also a trusted custodian and school assistant. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was answering phones or assisting with administrative tasks.  Her positive attitude and friendly demeanor made her a beloved member of the school community.

Outside of work, Weedy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved company and was always the life of the party. It was Weedy’s good pleasure to attend family gatherings, parties, nieces’ and nephews’ graduations, and family reunions. She always encouraged a good time with music and dancing.

Leonia is proceeded in death by her father, Clarence St. Romain; mother, Mary V. St. Romain; brothers, Theodore St. Romain (went to heaven at 11 months); Karl Bernard St. Romain (Martha); and father-in-law, Allen Yancy. She is survived by her loving husband and partner in life Bryan McNair; children, Britney and Bryce; brothers, Glen Paul St. Romain (Ann), Stephen Earl St. Romain, and James Lucas St. Romain (Patrice); sisters, Mary Pauline St. Romain, Marilyn Benita Thomas, Deloris Ann Murray (Jerome, deceased), Veronica Lynn Johnson (Billy, deceased), Evelyn Christina Haynes (Mike, deceased); mother-in-law, Jerrye Yancy, sister-in-law, Alisa Yancy, and brother-in-law, Winford Jones; and several loving nieces, nephews, and couzans.
