Lawrence James Jackson

Lawrence James Jackson, 67, of DeRidder, Louisiana, departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Dubuis Extended Care, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  Lawrence Jackson was born on October 6, 1944 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to the late Dr. Earnest Jackson, Sr. and Almary Scott Norris.  He was the second oldest of eight children.  He moved back to DeRidder, La in 1999.  Lawrence joined Mt. Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Earnest Jackson Sr. Lawrence Jackson graduated from G.W. Carver High School in 1964. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, La.  Lawrence served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1994, retiring as a Sergeant Major. He served in the Vietnam War and Desert Storm, receiving The Purple Heart Medal.  In addition, Lawrence received several awards, certificates and medals. 


Survivors left to cherish his precious memories are; step-mother, Mrs. Ozzie Lee Jackson, three children, daughter, Cynthia Plummer (Charles) of Dallas, Texas; sons, Darrian Hall-Jackson of DeRidder, Louisiana and Rodney Brown of Dallas, Texas;  7 siblings, Mr. Earnest Jackson Jr. of Genesco, Illinois;  Mrs. Patricia (Samuel) Simmons of Silvis, Illinois;  Ms. Betty (Melon) Forrest of East Moline, Illinois;  Mrs. Paulette (James) Holt of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Linda (Charles) Sowell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana;  Mrs. Barbara (Andre) Leatherman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mrs. Brenda (Julius) Jackson of Bon Weir, Texas; 1 step-brother, 4 step-sisters,  4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Earnest Jackson Sr. and Almary (Jimmie) Scott Norris.


Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2012 at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in DeRidder, Louisiana from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 9:00am to 11:00am.  Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. Rev. Louis Guy will officiate. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder.
