Larry Eugene Martin

September 26, 1944 — January 22, 2026

DeRidder, Louisiana

On September 26, 1944; Larry Eugene Martin, the most mischievous and loving little green-eyed boy you would ever meet, was born to Alvie and Bessie Irene (Hill) Martin in Elizabeth, Louisiana.

As Larry grew, he spent his days working the fields - planting and reaping crops, riding his horse Tony and playing jokes on his siblings. He may have been quiet, but he kept everyone on their toes. As Larry turned 21, he enlisted in the Army. He had hopes of going overseas to serve his country but was sent to Fairbanks, Alaska instead. He remained there for the duration of his military career. After his service, he received an honorable discharge and returned to the lower 48 to begin working and later raising a family. Over the years, Larry worked various jobs but the majority of his career was in the Logging industry. He first began as a cutter in the woods and later became the proud Owner of his own log truck and logging business known as Larry Martin Trucking, LLC. From Macs to Kenworths, Larry may have upgraded his rigs, but no matter what he did, his work ethic always shown through and he gave a full one hundred percent each and every day.

In 1983, Larry married the love of his life Grace Crisp Martin and together they spent 42 years in wedded bliss. From traveling to various places in the lower 48 and eventually taking a trip back to Alaska to see his old stomping grounds; they made cherished memories everywhere they went. At home, in his spare time, Larry could be found either playing chess with his daughter, building and racing on stilts, playing basketball, badminton or volleyball in the yard or cleaning the pool and avoiding falling in since he never learned how to swim. He loved grafting and raising Roses and fruit trees - among other blooming flowers and trees. Many days he would cut various blooms and hand them to Grace or place them in a glass of water on the counter for all to enjoy. Larry was always making the most out of life each and every day for those around him. He was an excellent hunter but failed miserably in the pursuit of “bringing home the bacon” because he would find himself peacefully watching the animals instead of hunting them. In later years, Larry began to spend his days woodworking and creating everything from furniture to decor to birdhouses or crosses and prayer boxes. Each piece was crafted carefully and meticulously by his own hands with thought for others put into every detail. For all who knew Larry, they would describe him as being a quiet individual throughout his life, but when he spoke, it was always words to remember. They were either filled with a profound wisdom or he was fixing to play a joke on you and everyone needed to be prepared. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and worker. He was always there for anyone in need and never had a thought of whether or not his kindness would be returned. He forever remained humble and kind.

On January 22, 2026, Larry won his fight against Cancer and walked into the arms of our Lord and received the miracle we all prayed for. He was 81 years old and passed peacefully at home in DeRidder, Louisiana where he truly was surrounded by love.

Larry is survived by the love of his life Grace Crisp Martin; his daughter Kelly Lynn Johnson and her husband Jeff; sons, Joseph Lee Coleman and wife Melanie; Larry Martin Jr and partner Loretta; Jimmie Weiss Martin and wife Michelle; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brothers, Leonard Martin, Soapstone, Louisiana; Randall (Tammy) Martin; Soapstone, Louisiana; Ronnie (Lisa) Martin, Pomona, Kansas; Toby (Stacey) Martin, Soapstone, Louisiana; two Sisters: Carolyn Martin, Soapstone, Louisiana; Doniece (Nathaniel) Hardt, Thompson, Connecticut; along with countless nieces, nephews and friends; along with his best friend and cousin Greg Martin and wife Rhonda.
