Kevin LaVelle Reeves was a loving husband, father, and friend. Kevin was born to Harmon and Louise Reeves on November 20, 1964 in Oakdale, Louisiana and left this world on Tuesday, June 13 at the age of 58.
Kevin married the love of his life, Suszanne, on February 18, 1989. Kevin and Suszanne had a son, Andrew, and a daughter, Keri. Two of the happiest days of his life were when his children were born. He gained a second daughter when Andrew married Lakyn and was looking forward to the birth of his first granddaughter, Avery. Kevin was a devoted husband and dad who was always willing to go above and beyond for his family. He was the biggest fan and encourager of his children and always put their needs before his own.
One of Kevin’s greatest joys in life was to be “Pop.” He first became Pop to Leiola and Lachlan, but quickly became known as Pop to so many other kids that he loved unconditionally. He looked forward to giving them hugs, watching their ball games, swinging them around, and picking out matching suits to wear with them on Sunday mornings.
Kevin graduated from East Beauregard High School in 1982. He started working at Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. in 1987 and worked there for thirty-three years. Kevin began working for RANCO Response in 2021. He loved all of the people he worked with and the opportunity to travel and meet new people. Kevin was more than just an employee—he was a friend.
Kevin was active in his community. He became a member of the Lions Club in 2014 and served as the president in 2016-2017. He was on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce. Kevin attended the Reserve Academy for the Beauregard Sheriff’s Office in 2010 and was commissioned in 2011. He was on the SWAT team from 2012-2020 and became a chaplain when he was commissioned.
Kevin loved God with all of his heart and dedicated his life to serving Him. Kevin began his ministry as the youth pastor at First United Pentecostal Church of Ragley. In 2000 he became the Assistant Pastor of First Church in DeRidder and served there until his passing. He loved his church family and never failed to greet each and every one of them in the foyer with a smile.
Whether Kevin was walking through the hallways at church or the grocery store he was singing. He especially loved to sing Christmas carols, even if it was July. His sense of humor was one of a kind— you never knew what dad joke he was going to tell. He had a smile that could light up the room and always had a way of making everyone feel loved and important.
Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Reeves. He is survived in death by his wife of thirty-four years, Suszanne Reeves; son, Andrew Reeves, and wife Lakyn Reeves; daughter, Keri Reeves; father, Harmon Reeves; brothers, Craig Reeves and family, Tony Reeves, and Mike Reeves and family; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, at First United Pentecostal Church in DeRidder, LA from 5pm-8pm, with the funeral on Tuesday, June 20 at 10am. Burial will follow at Pleasent Hill Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
