It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of JP Willis, who left us on October 13, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on January 28, 1930, in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, JP lived a life full of hard work and dedication. He was a skilled carpenter, having spent many years with Carpenters Local 953, where he proudly contributed his talents to projects like the construction of the 210 Bridge in Lake Charles.
But JP was much more than just a carpenter. He had a genuine love for the land, and enjoyed raising cattle, sheep, and goats. He knew his animals inside and out and took tremendous pride in their care. In his younger years, you could find him roping in rodeos, showcasing his skills and passion for the sport.
JP was a bit of a sentimentalist, often holding onto things that carried memories and stories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially by his son, Tommy Willis and Linda of Merryville, LA; sister, Eva Taylor of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Tabitha Coody and Eugene, Cristy Carlson and Don, Cindy Brister and James; great grandchildren, Jada Eaves, Katelyn Carlson, Shelbie Brister, Hunter Brister and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will carry on his legacy.
JP was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Della Stanley Willis; siblings, JD Willis, JC Willis, JW Willis, Marie Thompson, Adelle Bailey.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a public visitation at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on October 16, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held there the following day, October 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with another opportunity for public visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Hunter Brister, Bradley Bailey, Darrell Bailey, Tim Cooley, Ryker Caven, Joe Willis. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Taylor, Elton Jordan and Dr. James "Butch" Maze. He will be laid to rest at Hopewell Cemetery.
JP's spirit will live on in our memories and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
