Joy Faye McCaig O’Neal
Joy Faye McCaig O’Neal passed away on October 9th, 2026, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was born on February 2, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Thea and Catherine Stack McCaig.
Joy shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Billy J. O’Neal. Their life together was grounded in faith, family, and the many cherished memories they created throughout the years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of DeRidder.
Above all else, Joy cherished her family. Some of her greatest joy came from cooking for those she loved and bringing everyone together around the table. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and was an enthusiastic and devoted LSU sports fan.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Thea and Catherine Stack McCaig; her beloved husband, Billy J. O’Neal; and her three brothers, Danny T. McCaig, Thomas H. McCaig, and her twin brother, Jim R. McCaig.
She is survived by her three sons: Billy T. O’Neal and Jan, of DeRidder, Louisiana, Scott O’Neal and Jeanne, of La Grange, Texas, and David O’Neal and Paula, of DeRidder, Louisiana. Joy loved her daughters-in-law as though they were her own daughters and shared a special bond with her niece, Kathy Tew.
Joy dearly cherished her seven grandchildren: Barrett O’Neal, Ryan O’Neal and Tiffany, Tate O’Neal and Mollie, Chelsea Rudd and David, Jordan O’Neal and Caitlin, Demi Neely and Kyle, and Allie Kirk and Corey.
She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way: Anna Kate, Elyse, Emery, Cash, Beau, Zoey, Isla, Harper, Lincoln, Owen, Olivia, Eliza, Andrew, Cleo, and Alice. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends, each of whom brought tremendous happiness and pride to her life.
Joy will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and as a woman whose greatest happiness came from her family, her faith, and caring for those she loved. Her warmth, generosity, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Allegiance Healthcare hospice team and the staff of The Verandah Retirement Community for their compassion, support, and dedicated care of Joy and her family.
