Joy Nell Barrett

Joy Nell Barrett, 86, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed peacefully from this life on May 27, 2025. Though she is no longer with us, she is now joyfully present with The Lord.

She was born on April 7, 1939, in DeRidder to Floyd and Oma Gill. She is survived by her daughter, Jan O'Neal and husband, Billy; her son, Gary Barrett and wife, Kaye; and six grandchildren: Barrett O'Neal, Tate O'Neal and wife Mollie, Allie Kirk and husband Corey, Chad Bonstein and wife, Desiree, Deane Barrett, and Garrin Barrett. Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Anna Kate, Ava, Cadence, Dorian, Elyse, Kelsey, and Rhett.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Barrett, Jr.; her son, John Randall Barrett; her parents, Floyd and Oma Gill; and brother Floyd L Gill.

Joy was a member of First Baptist Church of DeRidder and she continued her journey of faith throughout her life. She spent her professional life serving others as a patient representative in social services at Beauregard Memorial Hospital for 37 years.

A loving mother, doting grandmother, and cherished friend, Joy's life was a reflection of kindness, strength, and service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will be held following the funeral at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder. Pastor Don Barrett will officiate the service. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Barrett O'Neal, Tate O'Neal, Corey Kirk, Chad Bonstein, Garrin Barrett, and Kaleb O'Banion.
