It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jonathan James Perkins, who left us on October 1, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jonathan, born on July 31, 1984, was a beloved son, a passionate DJ, and an all-around remarkable guy.
Jonathan was known for his love of music, spinning tunes as a DJ a few times at Camp Challenge of New Orleans when they held their camps at Lions Club Camp in Leesville. He lived for the beat and had an exceptional talent for bringing people together through his music. He was the DJ for the parties his mom hosted monthly for special needs individuals. Friends and family will remember his infectious laughter, his love for skating, and his unwavering belief that wrestling was, indeed, the real deal.
When he wasn't behind the turntables, you could find Jonathan gaming or playing on his computer, because he was quite the computer wiz. He had a soft spot for Little Debbie Cakes and would often eat them for breakfast. He also enjoyed horror movies. Among his many loves, his cat Smokey held a special place in his heart, and it's clear Smokey is missing Jonathan dearly, often searching for him around the house.
Jonathan was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of two and was a patient at St. Judes Children’s hospital from the age of two until he was twenty-one.
Jonathan is survived by his mother, Debbie Perkins and Wallace Wisby of DeRidder, LA, father, James Perkins and Debbie McLain-Perkins of DeRidder, LA; sister, Dorie Bailey and Rick of DeRidder, LA; nephew, Devin Bailey and Paige of Rosepine, LA; great niece, Karlee Bailey; great nephews, Conner Bailey and Dylan Bailey and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends, who will carry his memory forever.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Ednie Perkins, Walter and Ella Honea.
To honor Jonathan's life, a public viewing will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, giving friends and family a chance to celebrate the vibrant spirit he brought into our lives. The funeral service will follow on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Dr. Jack Perkins will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Justin Simmons, Greg Hartley, Joshua Slack, Shaun Foraker, Brayden Girdler, Anthony Torres. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Honea and Devin Bailey. He will be laid to rest after the service at Gravel Hill Cemetery at 1382 Gravel Hill Church Rd, Pitkin, LA 70656.
Jonathan, you will be missed more than words can express, but your spirit will continue to inspire everyone who had the pleasure to know and love you. Rest easy, friend.
