Jim H. “Jimbo” Dickerson peacefully passed into his heavenly home on May 13, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on May 3, 1938, in Silsbee, Texas to Dee and Bertie Dickerson. He grew up in Merryville, Louisiana, where the roots of his unwavering love for others, strong work ethic, and deep faith began to take shape.
He graduated from Merryville High school in 1957 and was an athlete. He played basketball, football and track. On June 14, 1970, he married the love of his life, Helen. He became a loving father to nine children and his heart also made room for many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by his love and steady presence.
For 43 years of marriage, they shared a faithful and steadfast love, weathering life’s challenges side by side and creating a legacy of devotion that continues to inspire all who knew them.
Jimbo was a hard worker; he dedicated over 40 years of service to Pool Well Services in the oil field before retiring. Retirement didn’t slow him down, he continued to serve his community by working for the Beauregard Parish Police Jury until a few weeks ago.
Jimbo was a dedicated and caring man whose life overflowed with fatherly love and a reflection of the deep faith he carried throughout his years. He will always be remembered for his boundless generosity, his warm smile, and the way he made everyone feel like family.
Jimbo knew just about everyone, and just about everyone knew Jimbo. He was generous and never met a stranger. His open heart and joy left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. Whether through a helping hand, a warm hug, or a shared laugh, Jimbo brought light into every room, and you knew that everything was at peace.
He had such a positive attitude, and nothing ever slowed him down, or kept him from seeing the joy of life. Jimbo will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his kindness.
Jimbo is survived by his sister, Gail Terrell, husband Ira Gene, along with his beloved nieces, Marla Treme, husband Jeron, Michelle Stark, husband Webb, and his beloved great-nephews. His children, Brenda Wood, husband Gary, Sharon Bushnell, Mary Jo Brister, husband Danny, Linda Pruitt, husband Johnny, Danny Boitnott, wife Tina.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dee and Bertie Dickerson, his wife, Helen Dickerson, brothers, R.B. and J.D., sons, Jimmy Boitnott, Thomas Boitnott, daughters, Patsy Sharpe, Kaye Wade, grandchildren, Mark Anthony Sharpe, Henry Johnson Jr., Tami McGee, Jacob Beasley, Joseph Bushnell and Mark Boitnott.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 17, 2025, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Catherine Beasley will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Webb Stark, Jacob Stark, Jeron Treme, Kaden Treme, Kennon Treme, Kanyon Treme. Honorary Pallbearer will be Wayne Doyle. Burial will follow at Merryville Cemetery in Merryville, LA.
