It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sergeant Jeremias Benjamin Mendez, born on March 29, 2003, in Baytown, TX. Jeremias left us far too soon on May 7, 2025, in Savannah, GA, at the young age of 22.
Known for his bright and shining personality, Jeremias was the life of every party. He had a knack for bringing people together, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did. Growing up, he was inseparable from his brothers, Abraham and Isaac, always watching each other's backs through thick and thin. He shared a special bond with his dad, often found by his side doing anything his dad was doing since he was just a little kid.
Jeremias met and married the love of his life, Monica, in high school. Their love was a beautiful testament to young romance, filled with joy and unconditional support for one another.
From a young age, Jeremias had an unmatched fascination with Army gear and helicopters, and he lived out his dream when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in the summer of 2022. He completed boot camp with flying colors, graduating 2nd in his class of over 580 students, and was offered a spot in Special Ops. His passion for adventure led him to enjoy activities such as running and hiking, embodying his spirited nature. Jeremias is survived by his beloved wife, Monica Mendez of Cleveland, TX, his parents, Benjamin and Juanita Mendez of Cleveland, TX; brothers, Abraham and Isaac Mendez of Cleveland, TX; his grandfather, Clyde Snider, Sr.; grandparents, Angel Mendez Martinez and Angela Lorenzo Mendez of Uxpanapa, Vera Cruz, Mexico; aunts and uncles, Dustin Snider and Janna; Dimetrio and Gaudalupe, Anastacio, Juan and Maribel, Alicia and Santo, Cristina and Rogelio, Carlos and Maira, Angel, Moises Mendez Castro, Jose Antonio Mendez Castro; cousins, Garrett, Jase, Sarah, Cloie, Missy, Sadie and a host of other cousins, family and special friends.
Jeremias was preceded in death by his grandmother, Deborah Snider; uncle, CJ Snider; great grandparents, Juan Lorenzo and Maria Candalaria
Visitation will be Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will continue Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM, also at Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 126 Bob Nichols Dr., DeRidder, LA, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Jeremias and share their treasured memories of him. Brother Glenn Alexander will officiate the service and Brother Juan Mendez will read scripture and say a prayer. Pallbearers will be Abraham Mendez, Isaac Mendez, Forest Green, Nicholas Burch, Specialist Johnny Hughes, Sgt. Tyler Tye, Freddy Martinez, Specialist Randy Witte. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Salgado, Corporal Said Villanueva, Dustin Snider, and Sgt. Brian Ruddy.
Jeremias will forever be remembered for his infectious smile, unwavering loyalty, and adventurous spirit. May he rest in peace, knowing he was loved deeply by all who knew him.
