Jack Dempsey Cochran

Jack Dempsey Cochran, 88, of Merryville, Louisiana, born on Feb. 14, 1924, passed from this life at his home on Monday afternoon, October 1, 2012.  Jack was a farmer and was also employed with Arco Oil and Gas as a mechanic for 38 years having retired in 1984.  His hobbies were fishing, gardening and he was always interested in the oil exploration in and around Merryville.  His greatest love was his family and especially his children and grandchildren.


The family expresses their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff of 2 Tower and 8 Tower of Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles for their excellent care of Jack this past summer.  A special thank you to Denise Sweet, his Home Health Nurse for the many times she came to care for him on her own time.  Thank you to Myers-Colonial Funeral Home for their special care-Hardy and Jerry Day, especially.


Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maurice Meadows Cochran; daughters, Judy C. Metcalf and husband Herbert of Lake Charles, LA, Jennifer Bachman and husband Karl of Bossier City, LA, Melinda Carroll of Merryville, LA; sons, James Douglas Cochran and wife Sharyl of Ragley, LA, James Wm. Mohney of Merryville, LA, Melvin W. Lord of DeQuincy, LA; granddaughters, Charlene, Shelley, Heidi and Lesi; grandsons, Shannon Metcalf and Jimmy (Mohney) Anderson; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ezra and Ila Cochran, six sisters, 2 brothers and two grandsons.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 6pm until 9pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:30 am at First Baptist Church in Merryville, LA. Burial will follow at Meadows Cemetery in Merryville.  Rev. Durhl Davis and Bro. Dale Cucancic will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
