It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Harlow Carroll, who left this world on January 1, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on March 29, 1930, in Merryville, Louisiana, Helen was a true force of nature whose love for family, friends, and life was evident to everyone she met.
Helen was the rock of our family, a devoted mother who faced immense challenges with grace and strength. Widowed at just 34, she stepped up to raise her seven children-ranging from just 18 months to 16 years old-while tirelessly working to support them. With hard work and determination, she became an accomplished accountant, contributing her talents to two universities, the Texas Tax Assessor's office, and several state offices.
A woman of strong faith and an outspoken spirit, Helen was a beloved figure in her community. She loved people and had a knack for bringing everyone together. Her infectious enthusiasm made her a proud fan at sporting events and family activities, showing up to cheer on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever she could. Helen cherished the bonds of family, hosting large gatherings and ensuring that everyone felt welcomed-if she picked up the phone to call you, you could expect to be part of the fun!
Her love for life extended beyond family; she had a flair for socializing and continued her weekly card games with friends right up to just a few weeks before she passed. A passionate traveler, she explored the world and left lasting memories wherever she went.
Helen is survived by her children, Louis Alan Carroll of Haughton, LA, Joey Carroll of DeRidder, LA, Frances Miers of Nederland, TX, Linda Calloura of DeRidder, LA, Jeanie Goodeaux of Hayden, AL, Lisa Mikos and Jim of King, NC; brother-in-law, Ed Kahn of Lake Charles, LA; sister-in-law, Clara Harlow of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren Tony Calloura and Angie, Todd Calloura and Brandy, Myndi Munuz and John, Michael Miers and Mandy, Missy Fisher, Chris Carroll and Mark, Andy Carroll and Candace, Matthew Broussand and Cassie, Brandon Broussand, Rob Mikos, Troy Mikos; sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, many of whom she touched with her warmth and kindness throughout her vibrant life.
