George Wesley Townsley

George Wesley Townsley, 84, of DeRidder, Louisiana passed from this life on Saturday, July 28, 2012 in Lake Charles, Louisiana


Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Doris LaVerne Townsley; one daughter, Karen “Tiddly” Townsley and her husband, Glen Dyer; sons, Damon  Townsley and his wife Debby of Prairieville, Louisiana; George (Kevin) Townsley and his wife Jody of Hensley, Arkansas;  Barry Townsley and his wife Wendy of DeRidder, Louisiana; ten grandchildren:  Jena, Jaclyn and Dillon Townsley, Brandon Broussard, Crystal Parce Harper, Andrea Dyer Wilson, George Kevin Townsley II and Geoffrey Kincaid Townsley and Corey and Celeste Townsley.  He also had 11 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Eugene Townsley and Victoria Loftin Townsley; brothers, Victor, Soloman “Sol”, Fate, Mitch and Pat Townsley and sister, Melba Branch.


George graduated from DeRidder High School in 1946. He served in WWII, and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from LSU in 1951. He was a state dairy inspector,  an Asst. Supervisor for the Farm program at LCIS in DeQuincy, a former school teacher at East Beauregard and he retired as a dairy farmer of 27 years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion for 40 years.


Visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La from 5:00pm-9:00pm and on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 beginning at 10:00am until time of service. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La. Rev. Wayne Kite and Rev. Corey Townsley will officiate. Burial will follow at Whitaker Cemetery in DeRidder, La.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
