Gene Hammontree, 63, Rosepine, Louisiana, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Visitation will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 3 PM until 10 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home from 9 AM until the time of service. The Funeral Services will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 3 O’clock PM with Rev. Lloyd Carrol and Rev. Claud Jeane officiating. Burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, Louisiana.  

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion post 27, as well as the Louisiana Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.  He was a Lineman Foreman for Kulaga Construction and was dearly loved and will be missed by his family, adopted family and his friends. 

Survivors include the following: Son: Joel Hammontree of Simpson, Louisiana; Daughter: Jamie Rene Hammontree of Rosepine, Louisiana; Two Granddaughters:  Paige Hammontree and Breanne Hammontree; Brother-in-Law: James E. Ambler of Rosepine, Louisiana; Niece: Cathy Ambler of Rosepine, Louisiana; as well as Two Great Nieces. He was preceded in Death by: Father: Ora Hammontree; Mother: Lucille Hammontree; Sister: Dot Hammontree; Brother: Billy Hammontree.
