Edward E. Cryer, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 11, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on February 22, 1930, in Merryville, Louisiana, Edward lived a full life dedicated to his family, community, and passions.
He was known for his love of gardening, often found tending to his yard and sharing the fruits of his labor with those around him. Edward was a devoted family man, and nothing made him prouder than supervising his son, Gerald, as they spent countless hours together outdoors. A lifelong fan of the Cowboys, he enjoyed cheering on his team while keeping up with other favorite pastimes like hunting and fishing.
Edward's impact stretched beyond his hobbies; his influence and leadership shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a hardworking man, making a living as a manager at Gulf States Utility, where his dedication was renowned.
Edward is survived by his wife, Norma Meaux Cryer of Dallas, TX and her children; his son, Gerald Cryer and Linda of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Jared Cryer and Allison, Jeremy Cryer, Jody Cryer and Angela, Jason Simmons and Toni, Mindy Simmons King and Mick; great grandchildren, Taylor Cryer and Taylor, Cooper Cryer, Keegan Cryer, Hunter, Posey, Jolie, Taylor and James; nine great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Raymond Simmons; sister-in-law, Marie Cryer; nephew, Robbie Cryer and a host of other family and friends. Together, they will carry on his legacy, reminding us all of the love he shared and values he instilled.
Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Cryer; daughter, Cathy Cryer Simmons; brother, Robert Cryer; great granddaughter, Lakean Cryer; parents, Earl and Effie Cryer.
A graveside service will be held at Cannon Cemetery on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 am. Reverend Alan Trouille will officiate the service. Jody Cryer, Jared Cryer, Jeremy Cryer, Jason Simmons, Jesse Young and Taylor Cryer. Honorary pallbearer will be Chad Clement. Edward's earthly duty is over, but his spirit and the lives he touched will live on in everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
