Dorothy "Dot" Ogden Harriman

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Catherine Ogden Harriman, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, who passed away on September 9, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on May 2, 1939, in DeRidder, Louisiana, Dot was known for her warm and selfless nature. She spent her life serving others, always putting the needs of those she loved before her own.

Dot’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to Brenda Harriman and Sharon Smith (Charles), all of Rosepine, LA, a proud grandmother to Madisen Cook (Kolby), and a loving great-grandmother to Gracie. She loved cooking for the people she loved and was known by her family as a wonderful cook. Some of her happiest moments were spent gathered in her home with those closest to her. Sunday dinners in the Harriman household became a cherished family tradition, filled with good food, laughter, love, and time together that meant so much to Dot.

Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marion Harriman; parents, Mallory and Alice Wilson Ogden; sisters, Audrey Faye Funderburg, Margaret “Molly” Nobles, and brother, Roy Ogden.

Dot graduated from DeRidder High School before beginning a life centered around family, hard work, and service to others. Early in her marriage, she and her husband, Marion, moved from DeRidder to Baton Rouge, where Dot began what would become a long and meaningful career. She spent 16 years working in the infirmary office at LSU before the couple eventually settled in Rosepine. Here, Dot continued her career in the Finance Office at Fort Polk, where she worked until her retirement.

Her years at LSU also began a lifelong love for the Tigers. Dot and Marion held LSU football season tickets beginning in 1958, a tradition that was eventually passed down through their family. She remained a loyal LSU sports fan throughout her life and could often be found cheering on the Tigers.

That same enthusiasm was even stronger when it came to her family. Dot and Marion were their granddaughter Madisen’s biggest supporters throughout her years in sports. They rarely missed an event and were always there in the stands, cheering her on and celebrating every accomplishment.

Retirement did little to slow Dot’s desire to serve others. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the local hospital, continuing to give her time to others.

Dot loved tending to the plants and flowers in her yard, which were always a beautiful reflection of the care she put into the things she loved. In many ways, their beauty reflected her own gentle and beautiful soul. Her generosity showed up in the simplest moments, too. A trip to the store with Dot often meant that if you admired something, she was quick to say, “I’ll get it for you.” Giving to others came naturally to her, and it was in these small, everyday gestures that she made those around her feel so loved.

In April 2025, Dot moved to Rosepine Retirement Home, where she quickly made friends and became affectionately known as “Mama Dot,” a name that perfectly reflected the warmth and love she shared with those around her. She especially looked forward to Sunday services led by Pastor Charlie Ferguson and was surrounded by exceptional kindness and care from the staff. Her family is deeply grateful for the love they showed Dot during her time there and extends a very special thank you to Brighton Bridge Hospice for the compassion, comfort, and care they provided to Dot and her family during her final days.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home, with a public visitation taking place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM that same day. Pastor and nephew, Eric Harriman, Reverend and cousin, Sonny Murphy, and Pastor and close family friend, Bill Smith, will officiate the service. The burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Nobles, Kolby Cook, Van Harriman, Layne Harriman, and Clay Kiser. She will be laid to rest after the service at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, LA. The family requests those attending the visitation and service to wear an LSU shirt or purple and gold.

To those who knew and loved her, Dot was truly an angel on earth. She was precious in every sense of the word, with a gentle spirit, a selfless heart, and a way of making people feel loved and cared for. She will be missed beyond words, but the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the memories she leaves behind will be cherished always.
