Donna LaWayne McKeegan Thompson

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Donna LaWayne McKeegan Thompson, who passed away on September 23, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 22, 1943, in Dalhart, Texas, Donna lived a life dedicated to her family and home.

Donna was a devoted homemaker who poured her love and creativity into everything she did. She had a special talent for quilting, crocheting, and all kinds of arts and crafts. Whether she was sewing a new creation or enjoying a peaceful walk, Donna found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, always bringing everyone together for holiday and birthday celebrations. Her warmth and laughter will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cherished, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Donna is survived by her children, Connie Higginbotham (Douglas Myers) of Vidor, TX, Elton Thompson (Charlene) and James "Jim" Thompson (Rhonda), both of Merryville, LA; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brothers, Albert McKeegan(Jackie) of North Freedom, WI, James McKeegan of Greenville, AL; sisters, Kay Scanlon(Tom) of Reedsburg, WI, Carol Ailshie of Dalhart, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will always carry her legacy in their hearts.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Thompson; daughter, Leota Lacey and parents, Elmer and Violet Martin McKeegan.

Funeral services to celebrate Donna's life will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with a visitation that morning beginning at 8:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to share stories and memories of the wonderful woman she was. Pastor Jason Fortenberry will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Tony Thompson, Dakota Thompson, Josh Riley, Zane Sanders, James Brister, and Daniel Brister. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Jeans and Aaron Riley. Following the service Donna will be laid to rest in Merryville Cemetery next to her beloved husband.

She will be deeply missed but will always live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
