David Lynn Cornwell

December 24, 1956 — April 6, 2026

Merryville, Louisiana

David Lynn Cornwell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on April 6, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on December 24, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana, David lived a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication, primarily in his hometown of Merryville, Louisiana.

David was married to his sweetheart, Mary Franks Cornwell, for an incredible 50 years. Together, they built a life surrounded by family, laughter, and the great outdoors. David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from June 1, 1975, to June 30, 1979, earning the respect of all who knew him.

After returning home, he worked through the years in logging and refineries, eventually finding his true calling back in the logging woods, before retiring. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies for David; they were passions that brought him immense joy and solitude. He loved nothing more than spending time outside and perfecting his food plots to attract deer, and he was wonderful at farming, generously sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends, often giving away more than he kept.

David's heart was full of love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Mary Franks Cornwell of Merryville, LA; his cherished his daughters, Elizabeth A. "Lizzie" Cornwell and Mary Katelyn Rose "Katie" Cornwell, both of Merryville, LA, grandson, Caden Jobe Cornwell of Starks, LA; granddaughter, Amia L. Cornwell of Merryville, LA; his great-granddaughter, Vivian Ruth Cornwell of Buna, TX; sisters, Linda Miers and Tommy of DeRidder, LA, Patsy Sellers and Don of Youngsville, LA, Candice Rucker and Chris of Merryville, LA; brothers, Bobby Cornwell and Curtis Cornwell and Julia, all of Merryville, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Family was everything to him, and he fiercely defended and supported them in every way.

David was preceded in death by his father, Lynn B Cornwell, Sr.; mother, Arline Cornwell; sister, Deborah Cornwell; brother, Richard Cornwell; son, Lynn B. Cornwell, II; granddaughter, Alivia Hollie; grandson, Colton Cornwell.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Boxwood Church of Christ, with a public visitation starting at 10:00 AM.
