Daniel Ray Archer

Daniel Ray Archer of DeRidder, LA, was called home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2019, at the age of 78.

Born in Dallas, TX, on August 10, 1941, the son of Jimmie Daniel and Bertha Viola Archer, and brother to Jimmie Edward Archer.  The family resided near DeRidder LA, in the Ikes Community, where they farmed alongside many good friends and families.  After graduating from Rosepine High School, “Danny” attended McNeese State University, later choosing to pursue a career in meat-cutting and attending school in Toledo, Ohio.  After perfecting his skills, he became the owner of several meat markets in Lake Charles and DeRidder, later managing both Piggly Wiggly and Brookshire Brothers’ meat markets over the span of more than 25 years and becoming a valued butcher to many friends in the DeRidder area.

A member of First Baptist Church, Danny enjoyed his Sunday school class and participated in the Baptist Medical/Dental Missions with his wife Linda, which blessed and enriched their lives. He loved music and played as a young man with his brother Jimmie, later becoming a member of the “Sounds of Nashville” band that performed locally for over 20 years.  Danny loved the Masonic craft and was a member of DeRidder Lodge #271, where he attained the 32nd degree in the Scottish rite, achieved the highest level in the York rite, and served as a Shriner.  Most of all, Danny enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, all of whom will miss him deeply.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Daniel Archer; mother, Bertha Viola (Archer) Davis; and brother, Jimmie Edward Archer. Left to cherish Danny’s memory are his wife, Linda Gail (West) Archer; a son, Gregory Phillip Archer and wife Pamela (Sciacca) Archer; a daughter, Angela Frances Archer; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne (Archer) Stokes and husband Benjamin Stokes; grandson, Zachary A. Scott Hagood and fiancee’, Charity Higginbotham; and two sisters, Bertha Lee Davis and Lilliie Marie Williams.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA and continue at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 1, 2019 until time of service at 2:00 PM also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home.
