Cleo Fred Martin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on July 24, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on October 20, 1940, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Cleo and Virginia Martin. He spent his life deeply rooted in the community of Deridder, where he touched the hearts of many.

 Fred graduated from West Monroe High School and furthered his education at Louisiana Tech, earning a bachelor’s degree that laid the foundation for his longstanding career in the paper industry. For an impressive 67 years, Fred was a devoted operator, contributing his expertise to the field for many years at PCA in DeRidder, LA and as a consultant with Olson Engineering for 20 of those years. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

 In addition to his professional achievements, Fred proudly served as the sole dietary of Soul Soup during its formative years, demonstrating his dedication to the welfare of others in his community. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he actively participated in Grace Church, where he was a valued member of the Mission Board. Fred’s conversations about his Christian faith inspired many, offering a compassionate and uplifting perspective to those around him. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Denitta McKnight Martin, who stood by his side through the years, sharing countless joyful moments as they built their life together; his children, Scot and Tammy Martin of Sun, Louisiana, Chris and Wendy Martin of Richmond, Virginia, Eric and Leah Martin of Baldwin, Florida, Aaron and Ashley Dixon of Louisville, Kentucky, Tommy and Lacey Peek of Leesville, Louisiana, and Alexander Moses of DeRidder, Louisiana; ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, his sister; Charlotte and Jesse Parker He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Virginia Martin; brothers, David Martin and Ronald Martin; and granddaughter, Emily Martin.

A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Grace Church in DeRidder, Louisiana at 11:00am. Pastor George Lee Glass will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 28, 2026, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday at Grace Church from 9:00am until the start of the service.

Fred Martin will be remembered not only for his professional achievements and community service but also for the warmth he extended to others. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Cremation has been entrusted to Myers Colonial Funeral Home.
