Rosepine, Louisiana

Cheryl Darlene Williams, 71 of Ravenna, TX

Cheryl was a long-time resident of Fannin County and was born in Bonham TX on February 28, 1954, to Robert and Louise Williams. For the last two years she has called Louisiana home and passed peacefully at home with her girls at bedside. Where they had the honor and privilege to be able to spend her last days at home taking care of her. Her last words were “Hey, I sure do love y’all” They know they are very blessed with that gift from God!

Our momma through our eyes….

She was meek. soft-spoken, but passionate, showed unconditional love. She was a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman of God. Through every heartache, tribulation or whatever life threw at her she never wavered on her Faith in God. Her greatest passion and love were Jesus and then her family. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16 and that is where she drew her strength from. She was a prayer warrior, never giving up on any of us even when we went astray, she wore the scars on her knees proudly! She was bold in telling us about Jesus. Making sure we knew the love of Christ and taught us all the importance in being saved by God’s grace.

You didn’t ask momma for her advice unless you were prepared to hear “kill them with kindness or pray about it.”

She taught us that life isn’t always easy but no matter what we couldn’t give up. Not only did we learn that from her words, but we learned it by watching her live out what she preached.

She was fun, free spirited and was adventurous. She loved to dance, teaching us how to Texas Two Step, The Waltz, The Jitterbug and any other little dance she could come up with. She loved late night coon hunts ending the evening with sunrise Whataburger trips. Skeet shooting and riding her mules along the river and dirt roads. Those were the good ol days. She was always coming up with some little tune to sing. She spent 10 years being a 4H and Campfire teacher using her God given talents to shape the minds of so many children. She had a smile that could light the room up. She loved nature and animals. Springtime was her favorite season of the year. She loved the newness it brings each year with fresh flowers and baby bunnies in the yard. Out of all her travels when asked what her favorite place was, she would always say Colorado, she used to say God out did Himself with the mountains and that she felt so close to Him sitting on the side of the mountains of Colorado.

Momma had many names in life, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, Ma, Momma and Ninny to her grand babies. Booboo kisser, tear whipper…. She was a best friend. She was the glue that held us all together, our rock. It’s safe to say a hero to some. She always knew how to make all the troubles go away. She spent her life taking care of others. She had many achievements but one that was dear to her heart was her poem writing. In 2011 she was given the award Premier Member from Poetry Nation for her dedication to the art of poetic verse and pursuit to pressure the traditions of the craft of poetry. She was a published poetry author with Eber & Wein Publishing. She received many awards but the most special for her was received for her poem Stormy's Smile.

Momma was an overcomer, she made it through the tragedy of losing a child, laying a granddaughter to rest. Overcame sickness and disease and yet she remained strong and taught us how to be strong and to overcome ourselves.

She dedicated her life to Jesus early in life, she spent her younger years in church singing in the choir. Often bringing specials on Sunday mornings, she was a member of Living Word Church in Bonham Tx.

If momma could tell us one last thing it would be “don’t grieve me too long, I’m home at peace and I’ll see you all when you get here!”

See you soon momma…. Love you bunches!
