Shirley Ann Lucius Smith

Shirley Ann Lucius Smith, 74, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on January 7, 2018.

Mom was all about family – especially the kids.  She loved jigsaw puzzles, Bingo, baseball, and dancing.  She loved her friends and mourned for each one that went on to meet Jesus before her.  Mom loved helping people:  from sewing clothes and mending to doing anyone’s hair – she firmly believed everyoneneeded a haircut!  Last, but certainly not least, Mom was the biggest prankster and everything was fair game; she never angered when she was pranked back.  Mom was a genuine treasure and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary “Bebo” Upchurch and Carolyn of Merryville, LA, Frank Sullivan of Merryville, LA, David Brown of Covington, TX; daughters, Luwanna Newman of Florien, LA, Tina Lindsey and Ed of Jasper, TX, Belinda Stapleton of Merryville, LA, Lori Brown of West Columbia, TX; brothers, Francis Don Lucius of Rosepine, LA, Eugene Lucius of Arkansas; sister, Doris Una Walker of Rosepine, LA; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lem and Jude Lucius; daughter, Debi Brown Phelps; brothers, L.J. Lucius, Johnny Lucius, Dean Lucius, Milford & Murphy Lucius; daughters-in-law, Zandra Brown and Karen Sullivan; brother-in-law, Wayburn Walker; sisters-in-law, Billie Lucius and Sandra Lucius.
