Jerry Keith Johnson

Jerry Keith Johnson, 64, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Friday, February 28, 2020, after a long-fought battle with cancer.


Jerry Keith joined the Louisiana National Guard after high school, where he served four years.  He then worked most of his life for Santa Fe Railroad.  As many know he was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved the River bottom Hunting Club and all those associated with it. He was a good ole country boy to the core.


Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Brandon Johnson of Oakdale, Webb Johnson, of Evadale, TX; daughters, Brandy Johnson Higginbotham of Pine Prairie, LA, Denay Johnson of Oakdale, LA, Jena Johnson Borho of Leander, TX, Amanda Johnson of Mansfield, TX; mother, Darlene Johnson of Merryville, LA; brothers, Kevin Johnson and Kristy of Jasper, TX, Kyle Johnson of Lumberton, TX; sisters, Patti Bearden of Merryville, LA, Kathy Johnson of Moss Bluff, LA, Cheryl Cavazos and Clay of Forth Worth, TX; ten grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene (Gene) Basil Johnson.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Pallbearers will be Cody Quave, Erwin Johnson III, Anderson Ingle, Ursin Miller, Chris Cavazos, and Curtis Cornwell.  Burial will follow at Meadows Cemetery in Merryville, LA.


The Johnson Family would like to express gratitude to all who have helped them throughout this difficult time, especially Jaci, Ashley and Chanta from Heart of Hospice for the guidance and comfort. A special thank you to Julie and Curtis Cornwell and all the numerous River bottom Hunting Club friends for all you have done.
